Patricia Bennett's show, "New Realism," runs from February 10 to May 15, 2011; Artist's Reception on April 7 open to the public
Baltimore, Maryland. Realist painter Patricia Bennett has seventy-one paintings and watercolors on view at the University of Baltimore School of Law Gallery of Art, 1415 Maryland Avenue, Baltimore, Maryland 21201, from February 10 through May 15, 2011, open 8AM to 10PM daily. The Artist's Reception will be held on April 7, 2011, from 5:30 to 7 PM. The exhibition and reception are both free and open to the public.
Patricia Bennett, 34, trained at The Schuler School of Fine Arts in Baltimore under the late Ann Schuler, and for a year at The Art Institute in Chicago. Bennett's realistic oil paintings have been featured in solo shows at The Orchard Gallery in Bethesda, Maryland; Antreasian Gallery in Hampden, Baltimore; Diddywops & Keefer in Monkton, Maryland; and in a duel show at Maryland Hall in Annapolis. A two-time finalist in the national Artist Magazine for still life, Bennett's images have appeared in Baltimore Magazine and The Baltimore Sun.
Bennett uses the classical techniques of old masters to create works that resonate with life today. Her paintings and watercolors primarily focus on daily life, ranging from sunbursts glimpsed while driving on Interstate 95, to a Friday night beer at Brewer's Art, to the stillness of viewing a vase of hydrangeas.

Patricia Bennett was juried into the Oil Painters of America, a national association, as well as the International Guild of Realism.

The following is the press release statement:"The second half of the 19th century was an age of faith in all knowledge derived from science. In the visual arts, this spirit was embraced in Realism - the accurate and objective description of the observable world; no more romantic paintings of the elite class. Focused on scientific concepts of vision and the effects of light, Realism sets as a goal the truthful and accurate depiction of the ordinary. Today it is hard to imagine Realism as a social statement. Regardless of politics, the works of artist Patricia Bennett are a testament to the practiced techniques of painting; however, her work is a far cry from ordinary. Her clever juxtaposition of objects suggests a bit of humor not usually seen in this genre of work. While you will be awed by her mastery of skills, her subject matter and lyrical mark making will make your heart sing. These paintings like the young artist herself are full of personality! Show hangs from March 17 to April 23, 2007."
Patricia donated a painting to the annual Lotta Art fundraiser for School 33. Tickets range from 135$ to 150$ and the catered event takes place April 21, 2007. Attendance ranges from 250 people up.
